Grooming Brussels Griffon
Brussels Griffon HaircutsThis is CH Featherwood Mark Anthony in the picture. Grooming a Brussels Griffon for show is a matter of stripping the dogs coat out by hand. In the pet world though most owners clipper the dog. 1st bathe the Brussels Griffon with a good quality shampoo. Either a good dog product or human product. I personally bathed my Brussels Griffon every week but most people do them a little less frequently. At this time is a good time to also brush their teeth.
I will first put them in the crate dryer for a few minutes to warm up and the with a pin brush blow the dog dry with a blow dryer until dry. I like my Brussels Griffon very neat when clippered, so I cut them close. I trim the dogs entire body, topline, tail, side of body, down to the knees on the rear legs & elbows on the front legs & on top of skull & below the ears to the eye area & the ears themselves. On the chest & rear end I clipper against the grain since this area grows fastest & it will stay neat longer this way.
You can either clipper the stomach area or if you want that a little longer, than trim it with scissors at an angle getting longer towards the chest. Trim the tips of the toenails off. With scissors trim the hair on the bottom of the feet & trim the edges round. Also with scissors I trim the rest of the hair on the front legs to a rounded look. On the rear bottom of the legs I trim the hair up to an angle to the body leaving a fringe just on the front of the legs to the stomach.
With scissors trim the hair right above the nose & between the eyes & trim the hair off the edges of the ears. The clippers would have done the front & backs of the ears or you can buy a pair of men's mustache trimmers for the ears for a neater look.FEATHERWOOD BRUSSELS GRIFFON
